How To Use Leantime’s Strategy Management Software
A big part of keeping motivated throughout the course of a project is remembering why you’re doing the work in the first place. We aim to connect the ‘why’ to your work with our strategy management software. We use company-level strategy and goal management to share relevant strategies with your team and create long-term clarity on what you’re working towards.
Leantime now offers Strategy Management on both the SaaS/cloud hosted version and now as a plugin for the open source community. For those on the SaaS platform, you can create a new strategy by clicking into the project drop down. Then click “Start Something New”.
From there, you'll have the option to select one of three scenarios: Set a Direction, Create a Plan, or start a Project.
Select Create a Strategy.
From there you can give your strategy a title, choose who can view it, and fill out your Executive Summary, Company Purpose, and Strategic Vision. In doing this, we recommend thinking of Strategy through a few questions:
The questions to think through:
What are you trying to accomplish?
How does the world look different when you accomplish it?
Save your strategy and you’ll be brought to the strategy overview.
In the strategy overview, you can access your Focus Areas, assign goals to them, and even create new projects that contribute to your strategy.
To link a project to a specific strategy, go to the project, click "Project Settings" at the bottom left corner of your screen, and select a strategy under the "Part of Program or Strategy" section. Or quickly link a new project by clicking the “New Project” button at the bottom of the Strategic Overview.
You can access your focus areas from the navigation on the left-hand side of the screen or by clicking on the title on the strategic overview.
Leantime suggests starting with these four strategic anchors: Customer, Financial, Internal Processing, and Learning and Growth. You can switch which strategic anchor you’re working on by clicking the drop-down arrow to the right of the name.
To add goals that align with your strategic anchor, click "Create Goal." Specify the goal, how you'll track progress, start and end dates, status, and its relationship to other goals. You can also set up dependency reporting to link program and project progress to your strategic anchors. You can choose to not link any projects or programs, manually link them, or as projects and programs progress your strategic anchor will too.
The navigation on the left side of the screen provides various tools for strategy management:
Strategy Overview: Summarizes your strategic goals.
Focus Areas: Drives your strategy and helps measure progress through goals.
Docs: Contains specific documents related to your strategy. It is similar to Project Docs
Strategy Boards: Like Project Blueprints, these guide you through developing your strategy.
Files: This helps you stay organized with files and documents.
