Subtasking with Leantime

Subtasking is a powerful technique in project management. It allows you to break down complex tasks into smaller, more manageable components and enhances organization, collaboration, and productivity. In this article, we'll walk you through the process of using subtasks in Leantime to optimize your workflow.

Creating a Subtask

In order to establish a relationship between tasks in Leantime, you have various options. Within the task edit screen, you can select a different task to relate it to, this indicates that these tasks are interconnected. Click here to learn more about managing tasks in Leantime. However, to create a true task dependency, you need to assign a task as a subtask and relate it to another task.

To begin, navigate to the edit screen of a to-do that requires being broken down into more manageable tasks. Click the "Subtask" tab at the top of the edit screen. From there, click “Quick Add To Do” and enter a description. Another approach is to set up a task as usual but set the "Relates To" field to another task and set its type to subtask.

In Leantime, the subtask and the main to-do will be displayed with a subtask icon.

Hovering over the icon reveals an arrow indicating its position on the Kanban board.

In order to manage subtasks, including checking their status or deleting them, access the "subtask" tab in the edit screen of the related to-do. To edit a subtask navigate to the edit screen on the tile like a normal to-do.

By leveraging Leantime's subtasking capabilities, you can effectively break down complex tasks and improve collaboration in your project management workflow.
